Computer Department
(Started in July-1992)
Introduction :
Computer Department was started in July-1992 with Computer Science as optional Subject in F.Y.B.Com. and one year Diploma in Computer Sciee course. Initial student strength was very low. When started, this computer department was the only of its kind in 30 km peripheries of Gondal, Providing University recognized computer courses and today also the scenario is the same. Although this department working as a self financed department because it is not under state governments direct payment scheme, has made significant development. Department has also contributed quite considerably in development of this college as a whole.
Department has to work hard to get enrolments in the course as computers in this region were in infant stage. We have to create awareness among the people of Gondal and surrounding villages by various ways like visiting their village and explaining the use of computers, dispatching pamphlets through news papers etc.
Library :
Computer Department had tendency of having up-to-date departmental library since inception. Started with more than 250 books and more than 100 titles, this library was reckoned as the richest college departmental library among the colleges affiliated to the Saurashtra University.
Current Status
Infrastructure :
At present computer department has 28 Computers and 2 Laser Printers, 3 Dot Matrix Printers, 24 out of them are allotted to students for their practical work. All these computers are networked and connected to a server, and to the internet via 2 mbps Broadband connection from BSNL. Students of the college and staff has unlimited internet access.
Recently college has established fully air conditioned, well equipped new computer center, having individual chamber for both faculty members. Area of new computer center is app. 880 sq. ft.

This college got the NRC grant from UGC and established a NETWORK RESOUCE CENTER. Free of cost internet access provided to Students from any faculty through this NRC. 2 Computers, UPS, Printer are part of NRC.

Other Activities :
We do arrange seminars for students on weekly basis. Every Saturday, students of D.C.S. conduct a class seminar under our guidance. Objective tests also conducted without prior notice on regular basis.
A one week computer training workshop for employees of all colleges of Gondal was organized during 24/02/2005 to 05/03/2005. Employees from M.B.Arts & Commerce College, Mahila Arts, Commerce & Home Science College and Law College actively participated in this workshop
This workshop was inaugurated by youngest faculty member of M.B.Arts & Commerce College, Mr. S. G. Patel (History) by enlightening the symbol of knowledge. Our Librarian Mr. M. J. Buch is in company.

Computer Department head Mr. Jayesh K. Chhatpar shared his knowledge with all staff members for 2 days.
Hands on practical training was also given to all the participants. in above photograph our honorable Principal Dr. S. J. Jhala is visible, showing great interest in knowing computers. Our office superintendent Mr.M. A. Jadeja is visible in following photograph. Every staff member, including 4th class staff members were given equal chance to learn and know about computers.
Honorable Principal Dr. S. J. Jhala intorduced visiting expert. He also asked all the participants to take maximum knowledge from Dr. N. N. Jani. Director of M.C.A. Department of Saurashtra University was ready to deliver his talk as seen. Dr. Jani did wrote, edited, published number of computer related books.
Before Dr. Jani deliver his informative talk, Mr. V. M. Isotiya, Computer programmer, M. B. Arts & Commerce College, Gondal welcomed him by presenting a bouquet on behalf of department, college and participants.

Recently retired (Oct-2006)
Dr. R.J.Joshi and Mr. J.R. Vaghashiya,
showed great interest although
they had few months in their retirement.
A brief presentation of Linux was organized on 24/12/2005 in collaboration of Smart Computers, Gondal. Former student of this college and department and one of the partner, Mr. Chaitanya Nathwani poured his knowledge of Linux operating system.
Workshop for teaching staff on COMPUTERS AND INTERNET AS TEACHING AID was organized on 25/11/2006. All teaching staff members were given hands on training on using internet, searching the net, downloading etc. They were also enriched with knowledge of preparing power point presentation and using computer as teaching aid during this workshop.
Mr. J. K. Chhatpar and Mr. K. S. Pandya delivered their knowledge. This one day workshop ended with Q & A session.
In first session every participant was taught about.
In second session, jointly handled by Mr. K. S. Pandya and Mr. J. K. Chhatpar, emphasized on using computer as a teaching aid. How to use Microsoft Power Point?, was explained to participants and after practice, they were asked to prepare a presentation for students by downloading information from internet, to have presentation and provide study material to their students using Power Point.

Future Development Plans :
As department is enriched with technologically well equipped infrastructure, we will do our best to keep the existing infrastructure up-to-date, matching the coming industry standards. We will purchase a Multimedia Projector very soon. This will help us in providing better audio visual teaching to the students.
We wish to fill our departmental library with titles of latest demanding / prevailing trends in IT sector. We love to see our students be the giants of their field.
We wish to Under U.G.C. development grant, we would like to have our new ultra modern computer department building in the college. This may take several years but we are aiming for it and already applied for the same in U.G.C. during 10th Plan. We will apply for the same in new five year plan, i.e. 11th Plan, when it commences.
Faculty development is one of the key aspects of the educational institutional development. We are preparing our all faculty members of the college in such a way that they can use computer as their teaching aid as today chalk and talk method of teaching has became out dated and new trends are coming up daily. So we can't afford to be left behind others, because the coming era is of competition in educational field between Granted institutions also. In these circumstances only those will survive, who are well equipped with modern teaching & learning techniques.
